Jeff Horsfall emailed us with the sad news of Ken's passing.
Ken Sparkes, passed away Monday 2nd January 2023, aged 94.
Ken will be remembered from his days working in the Macclesfield, South Manchester area. First in an External Works Gang where he worked his way up to become gang foreman. Ken then later moved into AN Control before taking early retirement in one of the first release schemes.
Before joining the GPO Ken served in the Military Police, the 'Red Caps' as they were known.
He was a life long supporter of Macclesfield Football Club and was the first person to have a drink in their refurbished bar, with new owners, Rob Smethurst and Robbie Savage. People may have seen him in the TV documentary, ‘The Making of Macclesfield FC’.

Monday 16th January 2023 at 2:00pm
Holy Trinity Church
197a Hurdsfield Road
Macclesfield
SK10 2PX
Followed by a private service for the family at Macclesfield Crematorium. Donations if desired may be sent for The Royal British Legion.
